Friday's Fav Family Foto

I've been a bad blogger.
It's been a week since I posted.
and what a week it has been.

Friday's Foto is hosted by the lovely Ms. Deborah. Just click on the photo album above to visit Ms. Deb and see more Friday's Favorite Family Photos.

Me and my monkeys.

This photo was taken about 6 months ago, on my son's 15'th birthday.

His name is Dylan.
and
He is my hero.

You see, when Dylan was almost 4, he was diagnosed with Autism.
He didn't speak, and hadn't reached many milestones, that a 4 year old should reach.
His doctors told me that he may never learn to do anything but dress himself and brush his teeth.
Not on my watch.
I'll spare you the details of everything we went through, but I will tell you this:
Not only is he talking now, he is brilliant. If you met him, you would never know he was diagnosed with Autism. He is in all regular classes, and not only is he passing, he could teach his History class.
Yesterday,
my baby had to have oral surgery.
7 teeth removed, and surgery on 5 more.
Yesterday, was a rough day, for my little man.
Late last night, through swollen lips, he told me how grateful he is, that I am his Mom.
No Dylan, ... I am the lucky one.
Then:
This morning, I received this award, from sweet Christina @ Signs of Obsession.
The Attitude is Gratitude Award!
Christina is a decorative artist, and makes darling little signs, among other things.
Give her a visit, and do say "hello".

Forgive me Christina,
I'll have to post my nominees later...
my 89 year old Grandmother fell last night,
and I have to get her to the doctor.

I will tell you how I've come to have an attitude of gratitude.

My son.
Through all of his struggles, his strength amazes me.
His big, big heart. He is the kindest person I know.
Through him, I have found the meaning of life.
He has taught me to be a better person.
I have so much to be grateful for.
Beginning with him.
And he is my Hero.

  3. What a wonderful picture and a wonderful story behind it. I hope he feels better today from all of that work done on his teeth! I hope your gradmother is alright also!
This is another story of how Doctors just don't know it all at all! I think they sometimes want to put labels on people like autism or adhd. Your son sounds like he is a genius and he has a bright future to look forward to!
    Thanks for sharing!
    Hugs,
    Angela

  6. Teresa, You are the driving force that allowed your son to progress without a doubt. The words, "not on my watch" says it all. Poor Dylan, having so much dental work. I hope he and your grandmother will be fine.

Thank you for sharing a very wonderful story.

    Hugs...Jeanne

  8. Teresa, Dylan should be all of our hero. He is an amazing young man. As I said in my post, what do Drs. know? They can only make an educated Guess of what they think will be. God bless you for taking the time and love to help him meet his potential. And not just saying well there's no hope, after all that's what the Dr said.

  11. What a wonderful story and a beautiful picture of you and your children. Dylan is indeed an amazing young man, but I have a notion he got it from his Mom! 12. I'm so glad to meet Dylan today Teresa. Alyssa looks so cozy next to him. The three of you look so cute together.
So yes we are home. Trip from hell but we made it. I had Bella on my lap all the way home and the new little puppy squeezed next to Bella. It was like having 2 toddlers crying for mommy's lap.
I cut my first daffodil yesterday. The tulips heads are exposed.
It sure was HOT in Fla. so I'm sure Ga. is hot also.
Oh and I LOVED reading your love story on FF.
Sorry we didn't get to see each other...but we will one day.
    Love Claudie

  16. My son was diagnosed with autism at 3years6months of age. He has made amazing progress and is in regular education classes.

I was once told by the school district idiots that my son was borderline mentally retarded and should stay in some special day class and make muffins all day.

    I disagreed....

My Grandmother always told me, "If you hang around with skunks, you're gonna get some stink on you."
