Friday's Fav Family Foto

Here's something you don't see every day.

I can't explain the giant guinea fowl in this photo with my Papa.
It hasn't been altered. So I suppose this was a double exposure.
But how crazy is this photo?
I have posted photos of my other grandparents several times for Foto Friday.
So today I will introduce you to
Joe and Louise.
We called Joe - "Papa",
and Louise, we always called "Nanny".
My paternal grandfather (his name was Jack) passed away many years before I was born. He and Louise had 4 boys. The boys were very young when he passed away. I don't think my grandmother ever really got over losing Jack. But she did eventually meet and marry Joe. He loved my Grandmother so much. He took care of her, and she took care of him.

About 12 years ago, as neither were in good health, our Nanny had to put Papa into the nursing home that was about 2 blocks from their home. He had alzheimers, and was always confused, but he just wanted to come home to Louise. When she passed away, I went back "home" to be with the family. Papa was told that she was gone. That very night, at around 2 a.m. , we received a call from the nursing home, and he had passed away too. He couldn't bear to live with out her. He died of a broken heart.
We buried them together.
It's not a sad story, it's a story of true love.

It was our Nanny, that gave me her love of gardening.

I hope that she's smiling down on me.
I miss her.

  6. Great post, and my grandmother was also called Nanny. Just be glad your grandpa was called Papa, not "Daddy Dick" like my grandpa!!

  7. That is a love story. Your Nanny looked sweet. I bet she was so full of love for you. I had a Nannie too. She would squeeze me to death with hugs. My mama has all the photos of her or I would post some. Maybe this summer I can get ahold of some of those photos. Have a good weekend!

  8. Awwww! This is the sweetest story! I am so glad you told this story today. I love to hear about couples who truly love each other and are totally dedicated to each other! I am sad because your grandpa was sick, but my heart is happy now because I am a big believer in true love!

Now, about those guinea hens! Crap! We have a guinea hen in our neighborhood and she drives us crazy. She wants to follow us when we walk! It is hard to keep our big dogs from eating her! I would run if I saw those big guinea hens coming! :)

  9. I know you said this wasn't a sad story, but I am near tears. It's such a bittersweet story of, like you say, true love.

The first photo is kinda scary! I agree that it must have been a double exposure...kind of cool though.

Thank you so much for sharing the photos and the beautiful story.

My Grandmother always told me, "If you hang around with skunks, you're gonna get some stink on you."
